McDonald’s Canada Brings Back McTasters Featuring New French Dijon Burger

McTasters are back at McDonald’s Canada and this time around the chain is offering the new French Dijon Burger as well at the returning fan-favourite Thai Sweet Chili Chicken sandwich.

The French Dijon Burger features a 100 per cent beef patty topped with creamy Dijon mustard sauce, sweet caramelized onions, all sandwiched between a mini baguette bun.

The returning Thai Sweet Chili Chicken sandwich features a crispy chicken patty, crunchy Asian veggie mix, freshly cut cucumber slices, and a drizzle of sweet and spicy Thai sauce on a mini baguette bun.

For those of us that pay attention to these sorts of things, last year the Thai Sweet Chili Chicken sandwich featured a Sesame Paprika Bun.

You can find the limited-time McTasters at participating locations across Canada for a suggested price of $2.99 each.

Halifax’s Iconic Oxford Theatre Closing Its Doors On September 13, 2017

It’s a sad day for movie buffs in Halifax as Cineplex of Toronto announced Thursday that the city’s iconic Oxford Theatre will be closing its doors on September 13, 2017.

Cineplex said the theatre located at the corner of Quinpool Road and Oxford Street has been sold to a local business owned by the Nahas family, Nanco Group, and as a result “will be officially closing its doors on September 13, 2017.”

To celebrate and pay homage to the theatre, a special week of programming featuring screenings of iconic films that have played on its screen over its eight decades is planned.

The farewell screenings will run from September 8 through 13, with fan favourites like Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Goldfinger, Rocky, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Titanic.

The Oxford will feature the following films during it final week of programming:

  • Friday, September 8 – Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), Casablanca (1942) and Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Saturday, September 9 – Wizard of Oz (1939), Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Sunday, September 10 – E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), Gone with the Wind (1939) and Maudie (2016)
  • Monday, September 11 – Rear Window (1954), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and Aliens (1986)
  • Tuesday, September 12 – City Lights (1931), Grease (1978) and The Graduate (1967)
  • Wednesday, September 13 – Singin’ in the Rain (1952) and Titanic (1997)

Tickets to all screenings will be $4.99, with proceeds going to the IWK Foundation.

New Evan Solomon Talk Radio Show Set To Debut Nationwide On September 5, 2017

Evan Solomon is going national with the launch of the new Evan Solomon Show across all Bell Media Radio talk stations beginning Tuesday, September 5.

The new show announced today will feature Solomon tackling a wide range of trending topics, including the latest breaking news, storytelling, and in-depth interviews with national and international newsmakers from the worlds of politics, sports, entertainment, and more.

“I’m very excited to launch this new, national forum for thought-provoking debate and discussion, highlighting compelling people who are making a difference in Canada,” Solomon said in a media release.

Pumpkin Spice Returns To Second Cup For Fall 2017

Boston Pizza Unveils New Kick’n Memphis Chicken Sandwich

Boston Pizza serves up some Southern heat with the introduction of the new Kick’n Memphis Chicken Sandwich at participating locations across Canada.

The Kick’n Memphis Chicken Sandwich features the brand’s buttermilk breaded chicken breast tossed in Memphis hot sauce and topped with crispy fried jalapeňos, real cheddar cheese, bacon, ranch dressing, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun that’s garnished with a pickle.

The new sandwich is served with your choice of one side: Fries, Caesar salad or a garden salad.

‘Gold Rush’ Star Tony Beets Fined $31K For Violating Waters Act

Tony Beets, a reality TV star often featured on the Discovery Channel program Gold Rush has been fined $31,000 for a 2014 violation of the Yukon Waters Act.

Yukon judge Peter Chisholm fined Beets and his company Tamarack Inc., in Whitehorse on Friday, August 25, 2017.

Back in May, Beets and his mining company were both convicted on charges related to allowing a sub-contractor to pour gas into a dredge pond, then setting it on fire. The stunt was featured in a February 2015, Gold Rush episode.  Mining enforcement officials in the Yukon received a complaint shortly after the original broadcast.

Beets and his company have three months to make good on the fines.
