McDonald’s Canada Hacked – 95,000 Job Applicants Affected

McDonald’s Canada says the careers section of their website was compromised in a recent cyberattack, compromising the personal information of about 95,000 job applicants since 2014.

In a statement, the company said people affected are those who applied online for a job at a McDonald’s Canada restaurant between March 2014 and March 2017.

McDonald’s says the personal information compromised was limited to applicant name, address, email address, phone number, employment background and other standard application information.

But the company says their jobs site doesn’t collect social insurance numbers, banking information or health information.

“At this time, we have no information that the information taken has been misused,” the company said. “We apologize to those impacted by this incident.”

McDonald’s shut down the careers website and launched an investigation when they learned of the privacy breach.

“The careers webpage will remain shut down until the investigation is complete and appropriate measures are taken to ensure that this type of security breach does not happen again.”
