Long-Lost 8-mm Films Depict Canadian Cities In The ’40s, ’50s, ’60, ‘70s

A stash of long-lost 8-mm films discovered by Mark Holtze in the basement of his parents’ Aurora, Ontario home offers Canadians a unique look at their past.

The library of now digitized film includes: Montreal in 1949, Halifax in 1971, Vancouver in 1964, the 1959 Royal Visit, Toronto Centre Island in 1962, the 1963 Toronto CNE Air Show, and many, many more.

In all, Holtze, 36, discovered 30 reels of 8-mm films featuring a wide range of points of interest across Canada, all shot by his grandfather, and great-grandfather.
