Senator Jacques Demers Released From Hospital After Being Hospitalized Saturday

Update:  Senator and former NHL coach Jacques Demers is back at home after being hospitalized for a reported stroke on Saturday. His Senate office would only confirm that he returned home Sunday.

Former NHL coach and Senator Jacques Demers has been hospitalized after suffering a second stroke.

Demers condition is not known at this time. Demers, 72, underwent three months of extensive rehabilitative therapy after suffering his first stroke on April 6, 2016.

Demers led the Canadiens to their last Stanley Cup in 1993 and also coached the Quebec Nordiques, the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues.

On August 27, 2009, the former NHL coach and broadcaster was nominated by Prime Minister Stephen Harper to fill the Canadian Senate seat vacated by Yoine Goldstein. Senator Demers represented the Conservative Party in the Senate until December 2015 when he resigned from the Conservative caucus in order to sit as an Independent.
