David Saint-Jacques selected to be next Canadian astronaut in space

David Saint-Jacques will be Canada’s next astronaut to visit the International Space Station.

He has been booked on a Russian Soyuz rocket that is scheduled to blasts off for the International Space Station in November, 2018.

Saint-Jacques, 46, has been assigned to a six-month mission aboard the space station. During his mission in space, Saint-Jacques will conduct a series of scientific experiments, robotics tasks and technology demonstrations, the details of which will be revealed later this year.

The announcement was made by Minister of Science and Innovation Navdeep Bains, Monday morning.

Saint-Jacques studied as an engineer, astrophysicist and medical doctor before joining the Canadian Space Agency in 2009.

Chris Hadfield was the most recent Canadian in space.
